Joining a DBT Group
Download an application form but
read the recommendations below.
Thank you for considering our Introduction to a
Dialectical Behavioral Skills Workgroup. Successful groups require
motivated and committed participants. This application process is to find these
participants.
First, determine if you are ready to commit. DBT material
is easy to understand and the group dynamics are nurturing; but it is difficult
to integrate the skills into your life. Almost everyone finds some internal
resistance to doing the homework. Sharing your frustration and success stories
helps, but it still requires hard work. At a minimum, you need to commit to
coming to classes. If you do not come, DBT will not help you.
Reasons not to do the DBT Workgroup:
Ø
You are doing it to please someone else like your parent, your
spouse or your therapist
Ø
You just heard about DBT and believe it will magically change your
life in 12 weeks
Reasons to do the DBT Workgroup:
Ø
You have suffered enough to be willing to look inward for
solutions
Ø
You are committed to staying with a program especially when it
feels unbearable
Ø
You meet weekly with a therapist who supports your integration of
these skills into your life
Ø
You plan on doing the homework
